Personal Liability Umbrella
Typically used in association with a homeowners policy as an endorsement, liability insurance protects your assets in the event that you or a family member are liable for personal injure or property damage to others. Standard insurance policies (auto, boat, homeowners, renters) can provide a degree of protection against this. However, when this coverage is not enough and exhausted, a personal umbrella policy will provide you additional coverage in the event of a catastropic claim, lawsuit or judgement.
Determining the appropriate level of personal liability insurance coverage is not an exact science, and you probably need more coverage then you think. Lawsuits reach into the multi-millions of dollars. Could you face a three million, five million, even ten million dollar judgement against you? Without coverage you could face the loss of all of your assets and future inheritances.
